The German cockroach is the species most frequently found inside homes and restaurants across Ontario. It cannot survive outdoors in the cold, so once established, it stays close to warmth, moisture and food — typically behind refrigerators, under sinks, and inside cabinets near the kitchen and bathroom.
A single female can produce hundreds of offspring in a year, so infestations grow quickly if left untreated. German cockroaches shed skins and leave droppings that can trigger asthma and allergy symptoms, and they are known to contaminate food surfaces. Because egg cases are resistant to many surface sprays, professional gel baiting and monitoring typically give the most reliable long-term control.
