The common house spider builds messy, irregular webs in corners of rooms, basements, garages, and window frames, where it waits for small insects to become trapped. It is one of the most frequently encountered spiders in Ontario homes and is not considered dangerous to people.
Populations often become more noticeable in fall as spiders move indoors seeking warmth and mates become more active. Regular vacuuming of webs and egg sacs, combined with reducing outdoor lighting that attracts prey insects near entry points, helps keep numbers down.
